DUMFRIES HOUSE RECEIVES LAND ROVER DONATION FROM THE PRINCE OF WALES

A Land Rover Defender donated to HRH The Prince of Wales earlier this week was immediately put to use on a Scottish estate after being driven straight off the assembly line from the Solihull factory 300 miles away. The Defender, a 110 Station Wagon, was accepted by the Prince on behalf of Dumfries House – a historic Scottish estate that His Royal Highness helped save for the nation.

The unexpected gift was given to the Prince at Land Rover’s 60th anniversary celebrations earlier this week in Solihull. HRH handed the keys over to Michael Schafer, Chief Executive of Dumfries House, who drove the vehicle to its new home in Ayrshire immediately after the event. The Defender will be used to carry out essential maintenance work on the estate.

Mr Schafer said, "We are delighted to receive such a valuable and practical gift from Land Rover. This fully capable off-road vehicle will enable us to get to parts of the estate quickly which would otherwise not be possible. I am sure that the Land Rover will play a vital role in helping us to preserve one of Scotland's national treasures".

The Prince of Wales, who also celebrates his 60th birthday later this year, visited Land Rover’s factory in Solihull to tour the manufacturing facilities and meet employees. He praised Land Rover for embracing innovative engineering in order to tackle climate change and said the company's CO2 Offset Programme demonstrated the sort of commitment and real example that was essential to reduce the carbon footprint of global industry and improve sustainability.

Later he had an in depth look at the LRX Concept, a vehicle envisaged with 120g/km CO2 and 60 mpg capability, and an overview of the environmental technologies and CO2 strategy being developed to drive down emissions. Land Rover is involved in a £700m investment in sustainable technology that includes the development of hybrid technology and the use of lightweight material.

Land Rover runs the world's largest consumer CO2 offset programme, balancing all manufacturing emissions and the first 45,000 of customer use in the UK and other European markets.

Land Rover is involved in numerous important conservation programmes worldwide, which are hugely beneficial to local communities. Without the use of Land Rovers, some of their rescue missions or emergency operations would be impossible.
