By car

The arrival point is on the north side of the Estate off the B7036 Barony Road near Auchinleck. Brown road signs are situated locally.

SAT NAV: Use postcode KA18 2LN.

Access is via a single track driveway with passing places, approximately one mile long. The driveway passes over a steep bridge (the ‘Adam’ bridge). Please be aware that road surfaces are uneven, and observe the 5mph speed limit and please be patient and courteous to other road users.

Parking areas are clearly signposted. Limited car Parking is provided around the house with an overflow area approximately 250 meters from the House.

Disabled car parking is available in close proximity to the House.

By coach

Coach Parking is available in close proximity to the House by pre-booking only.

Brown signs direct visitors to the north side of the Estate which is accessible to cars only due to a weight restricted bridge. Access for coaches is ONLY available from the main A70

Cumnock to Ochiltree road

In order to gain entry to the Estate, where possible, we ask the group organiser on the coach to telephone the general office on 01290 425959 (Option 4) prior to their arrival.

From Glasgow

Follow M77. Continue onto A77. At Kilmarnock turn left onto A76 towards Dumfries, until reaching Auchinleck. (Ignore the Brown Sign for the visitor entrance). Take 2nd exit at roundabout following signs A76 Dumfries. Take 3rd exit at next roundabout following A70 to Ayr. After eight tenths of one mile the entrance to Dumfries House is on the right hand side, signposted as ‘Deliveries and Coaches Only’.

From Ayr

(NB: No left turn permitted into Dumfries House) Take the A70 signposted to Cumnock. Stay on the A70 travelling through Coylton and Ochiltree, ignoring the Brown signs for the visitor entrance in Ochiltree. Continue until reaching the roundabout with the A76. (You will pass the entrance on the left hand side but no left turn is permitted due to the tight turn) At the roundabout take the fourth exit doubling back towards Ayr. After eight tenths of one mile the entrance to Dumfries House is on the right hand side, signposted as ‘Deliveries and Coaches Only’.

From Cumnock

Take the A70 towards Ayr. After approximately eight tenths of one mile the entrance to Dumfries House is on the right hand side, signposted as ‘Deliveries and Coaches Only’ On arrival at the electric gates call 01290 425959 (Option 4) to gain access or otherwise use the gate buzzer (You may be met by a member of Dumfries House staff, or the gates may be opened remotely). Once on site, please observe the 5mph limit. Follow the estate drive north, bearing right towards the house. Please park alongside the grass verge to the right, (avoiding the lawn) and ensuring that there is room to pass on the left. You will be greeted by a Dumfries House representative. No passengers should alight from the coach until it has reached its parking place.

When leaving the estate you join a very busy road, (the main A70) and for safety reasons must turn left. The A70 joins the A76 at a roundabout eight tenths of a mile away. So we can prepare for your arrival, Group Organisers are requested to confirm their expected arrival times in advance, where possible by calling 01290 425959 (Option 4). Coach drivers will be provided with complimentary tea or coffee in our café.

By public transport

Coming From Glasgow

Take the Service 19 train from Glasgow, ENSURE THAT THE TRAIN REACHES AUCHINLECK AS NOT ALL OF THEM DO. These run every hour until 1300. From the station walk down to the road and turn left, you should be walking uphill, and carry on until you reach the mini roundabout. Go straight ahead and take the turning on the left after the petrol station. Carry on over the bridge and turn right at the t-junction on the other side of the bridge and go under the bypass. Then take the immediate left, go through the gates and follow the estate road down to the visitor centre. The walk should take no more than forty minutes. This train continues on to Carlisle.
