The Decorative Ceiling. The ceiling is testament to the restoration work conducted by The Great Steward of Scotland’s Dumfries House Trust.

Havng been painted and gilded in the nineteenth century, the room was restored to its original bright off-white colour scheme, giving an otherwise dark north-facing interior some welcome light. The decorative plasterwork features a mask of Bacchus, baskets overflowing with fruit, carafes of wine and sheet music, all recalling the pleasures of polite society that the occupants would have partaken in.
