News. British Science Week at Dumfries House

7th of March, 2022

Budding young scientists are invited to celebrate British Science Week with us at Dumfries House!

Pop in to the estate’s Morphy Richards Engineering Centre at any point between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 12 March where our tutors will be on hand to help families get creative with circuits and get clued-up on the carbon cycle. There will be lots to learn for children of all ages – electrons, batteries and how much carbon is stored in our trees.

Entry to the event is free and is a great way for families to engage with British Science Week, a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths.

STEM tutor Nia John said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming young guests and their families to Dumfries House and engaging them in fun activities such as Creative Circuits and Carbon Catchers. We'll help you to build your very own light-up card, so you can take a little science home with you.

“While the activities are best for those aged seven and older, we’ll be very flexible and there will be blocks and colouring activities for younger learners.”

The Prince’s Foundation’s STEM Programme aims to make STEM skills accessible and exciting for all. During day visits to the estate’s Morphy Richards Engineering Centre, school groups spend time outdoors and indoors, taking part in practical activities around key concepts and meeting real-world STEM professionals to help them learn how some of the problems of the future can be solved.
